Palin Squashes Rumor. Politico Doesn't Like That

It seems ole Jmart can't contain himself over at Politico when it comes to Palin. Apparently now it's absurd for her to respond to rumors that are flying across the internet. Here's part of his story today.

Sarah Palin’s spokeswoman Saturday took the unusual step of posting a statement on Facebook denying an anonymous blog report that the former Alaska governor was getting a divorce and moving to Montana.

“Yet again, some so-called journalists have decided to make up a story,” wrote Meg Stapleton on Palin’s Facebook page. “There is no truth to the recent ‘story’ (and story is the correct term for this type of fiction) that the Palins are divorcing. The Palins remain married, committed to each other and their family, and have not purchased land in Montana (last week it was reported to be Long Island).”

Actually, no journalists had reported the allegations. They were made on an Alaskan blog called “The Immoral Minority,” and then repeated on other blogs, including Gawker, a well-trafficked New York gossip site.

Actually this story caught fire this morning when it was posted at Alaskareport.com. This blog just happens to be run by Dennis Zaki who is a stringer for CNN. Ya know, the most trusted name in news. So by the third paragraph Martins story has already shit the bed. But he continues.

By having her spokeswoman repeat the charges to rebut them in a public form, Palin effectively guaranteed coverage from the mainstream media that otherwise would not report claims attributed to unnamed sources on an anonymous blog.

Again this is a story that was being pushed by a blog in Alaska run by a CNN stringer. It was a story that was all over twitter as well as being picked up by Gawker, The Daily Kos, and The Huffington Post (one of the most widely read political blogs on the planet, especially by "journalists"). Staying silent would only feed the fire.

Palin is one of the few conservative politicians that seems to understand the internet. Many people now get their news from the internet. These rumors start on the blogs, work their way into comment sections of msm news stories, and eventually get reported on. Martins line that the "msm otherwise would not report claims based on anonymous blogs" is ridiculous. Part of the deal with the msm exposing itself as journalistic frauds during the campaign is that it can no longer be given the benefit of the doubt. If this had gone unanswered MSNBC would have a countdown clock Monday morning to the supposed date of Palins divorce. By addressing this rumor it does guarantee msm coverage...ON PALINS TERMS.

Sarah saw how the McCain campaign (specifically Steve Schmidt) handled internet rumors during the campaign. The whisper campaign by the left wing blogs went unanswered, then seeped into the msm, and by then it was too late. People couldn't differentiate fact from fiction. Was she a book banner? Did she join a secession movement? Is Trig really her baby?

Jonathan Martin is straight out of the Kathleen Parker and Christopher Buckley wing of The National Review (yes he worked there shortly). He doesn't seem to like the fact that Palin has figured out how to squash rumors before they can damage her. Well sorry JMart, Sarah now knows how the game is played. Get used to it.

UPDATE- Thanks to C4P, Texas4Palin, and RiehlWorld for the links. Be sure to head over and check out their updates on this story. I'll have more in the morning...or the afternoon, depending on when I wake up.

  1. Squashing rumors is not all Sarah us capable of doing... The Left, Obama, Chicago goons, MSM goons better sleep with one eye open at all times, the NORTH STAR is going to find and shed it's bright light for all to see, their cover exposed as if turning over a rock and watching the roaches run all over themselves.....

  2. What do you dingbats see in Palin that 2/3rds of Americans don't see? What does she have going for her? If she looked like Hillary would you still like her?

  3. Its not how she looks Anonymous (why not post a name) its her authenticity. She lives her viewpoints. Says what she means and means what she says. She is one of us, in that she didn't arise from a rich family, or marry a powerful man, or go to the Ivy League. She picked herself up and took her family with her on a march to change politics. Started from the PTA and went all the way to the governorship and was the vice presidential nominee. She is an amazing woman, an unabashed conservative, and yes has the looks to kill.

  6. seriously? Why don't you answer instead of being an apologist? Andrew Sullivan is a conservative scholar and widely respected.

  7. Address the lies. You can't. You just ignore. That's why the country hate the GOP, you don't have answers, and you are all hypocrites.

  8. I guess the only thing better than getting home and seeing you've been linked at a bunch of different sites is finding out I have my very own troll in the comment section. Well, maybe the only thing better than that is knowing this person is so worried about Palin that they spend their Saturday nights looking for posts about her so they can show off their Palin Derangement Syndrome. Thank you troll. And get that PDS checked out.

  9. Again, kudos for ignoring her lies. Maybe she can wink her way to stardom, but don't worry, no one is worried about her.

  10. Politico are scum. Anybody spreading this rumor is a tool- and should be ashamed of themselves... talk about desperate. Hard watching the Dear Leader crash-n-burn, I guess-

    And what did Palin say?

“Divorce Todd? Have you seen Todd? I may be just a renegade hockey mom, but I’m not blind!”

Well, Palin’s resignation obviously puts yet more pressure on Obama to finally get some results, as the soaring rhetoric isn’t hypnotizing the plebes like it used to… and now there’s another viable alternative waiting in the wings.

Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine? Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko? Racist preachers? Instead of doing business with every last one of them?

IMO Palin could trounce him in 2012, when Americans would vote for the Gipper-in-Heels in droves- they’ll surely being looking for such an antidote to the Bolshevik con-artist who’s currently taking a wrecking-ball to this society.

No wonder the far-left moonbats -along with Team Obama’s David Plouffe and his internet squads- are out to destroy her.

    Go get em ‘Cuda-

In took the time to check out your "lies". I have to say I have never seen so many mistakes, halfthruths, and outright lies in one post. If Andrew would take the time to do research maybe he wouldn't be such a laughingstock in the rightsphere blog world

That statement is worthy only of a woman who chose her mate on the basis of his beefcake quotient and not his intelligence, ability to support a family, or his personality.

You'd think Sarah Palin was pimping her husband... Ugh.

At least she can't call him that trailer-trashy title, "The First Dude", any more.

Oh, yeah, one more thing. Someone is evidently living in the past -- Palin hasn't been a hockey mom for almost 3 years.

  13. I'd like to see your refutation of Sullivan's list. For example, there are several interviews of Sarah bullshitting about accepting the VP slot on McCain's ticket - from the 'you can't blink' crap, to the polling her family. Also, the branchflower report is pretty clear. Her biggest load of crap was the whole bridge to nowhere fiasco, etc. So, again, are you just going to ignore it or can you actually address it?

halftruths are hard to refute. For instance the bridge to nowhere. She did support it at first then she killed it. You want to concentrate on her support; her supporters want to concentrate on her saying "thanks but no thanks" both are right to an extent yet miss the entire picture and fail to place it in the proper context.

As far as her polling her family I would like to know how you know what was said over the course of days, weeks etc in the privacy of her home. She never said when she polled them it could have been 2 years ago or 2 months before her pick when she first had to submit materials to the McCain. Andrew uses ONLY the timeframe from the time she got the call. I could go on but the point is that almost every "lie" Andrew lists can have a different explanation. He provides no documentation just a list of lies.

the branchflower report is the biggest laugh of them all. It was a report put out by a partisian hack (who was rewarded for his hard work with a cushy federal government position by the Obama team) The REAL report put out by the personel board whose members where choosen by the governor of the previous admin stated that there was no abuse of power. A real journalist would list the conflicting reports and explain the working of each committe that found each results.

Another "lie" was the pipeline "began" under her admin. Let me channel Clinton here and ask what the definition of "began" means. If began means actual building of the pipeline than she lied. however if "began" means to set the foundation legally, and on paper so that the pipeline can become reality then She not only told the truth she was being modest. She did what politicians in AK were unable to do for 30 years. She started or "began" the laws that set the stage for the final agreement reached between Exxon and the Candian pipeline company to start building the pipeline. the biggest private infrastructure project in the history of the US. Face it without Palin's efforts and those of her admin that pipeline would still just be a dream in most AK minds. Now at least it has private backers, a clear legal framework, and the very real possibility of seeing completion within our lifetimes. I think that qualifies under "began" Andrew and you seem like it doesn't. I could say you are "lying" misrepresenting the truth, etc and I would probably be more correct.

I could go on but it is getting boring. Every "lie" you and Andrew state is and can be refuted or expanded on with current documentation. In fact the list Andrew cites shows him as either a partisian, a hate or unintelligent. Take your pick

Yeah because finding your mate sexy is so wrong. Palin has listed tons of reasons why she choose Todd for her husband and father of all her children and yes his looks was one of them. Also his outlook on life, his work ethic, his family, etc etc. Do you want her to list them all again and again? Or she could just issue a one liner to get the point across without a shadow of a doubt. But maybe it is too nuanced for you to grasp. The quote show without a doubt that not only is GOv Palin still in love with Todd but she is still in lust with him. Could be we might have 6 Palin children running around come 2012.

So going to a good school makes someone not "one of us?" So if you come from a working family, work hard, get scholarships and go to Harvard or Yale, you don't any "cred" anymore? Is that it? If you take 6 years to get a 4 year liberal arts degree, you are now one of us? I guess "one of us" means dumb?

Could "one of us" mean thinking that Russia would attack the US through Alaska? Moscow to DC is the same distance as Vladivostok to DC but without all the north American airspace. Sure, that one comment made her one of you guys, delusional, but it did not make her "one of us."

Or living her viewpoints like trying to use the power of Government to remove your daughter's decision whether to terminate a teenage pregnancy. But "supporting" her own pregnant daughter's "decision" to keep the baby (her words not mine). If it was a "decision" what was the alternative? If she believes abortion is immoral, what "decision" was there. Did she "support" her daughter's "decision" to refrain from "killing Levi?" No of course not. Bristol Palin, I assume, never thought of killing Levi so there was no "decision" there. If you believe that abortion is murder (her words) what "decision" did Sarah support? Bristol's "decision" not to commit murder?

It simply boggles the imagination that Americans can support someone so, for lack of a better word, dumb. But then I read Reaganite Republican's post and it all becomes clear. Many Americans can barely read, unlike the general citizenry of our liberal European neighbors, so it should not surprise anyone that drivel like Reaganite Republican's or this blog, written by people who can barely write, could move them. Is your blog written in Crayon like this one?

I love the fact that you fail to show where the bridge was built? Was the bridge built? Is it allowing cars to travel across it at this very instance? No you say? I see no bridge. the project was killed. There is no bridge to no where. Spin that however you want. There is no bridge because the GOV said it had become too political and the money could be used for other things. So did Palin kill the bridge project? Why yes she did. Did she use the money allocated for other projects why yes she did.

How is the fact that she killed the project but spent the money on other projects different than "I said thanks but no thanks to the bridge to nowhere" It is the same thing. You calling that a lie is what is hilarious!

What a for lack of a better word "dumb" post. AK would be attacked for the simple reason of its energy. Taking 6 years for a 4 year education if you and your family are not wealthy and do not want to go into debt is a very "smart" decsion. I myself did it. Working inbetween semesters to help defray costs so my debt load upon graduation would not exceed my income. But don't let facts or different explanations get in your from your "dumb" view.

Aworking class person that goes to havard and still thinks as a working class person is not a snob. It is those that go to havard and think they are "better" or "smarter" than others simply for the fact that they went to havard and thus are more qualified to "rule" the people; that places them in the "snob" elite" class.

Please show where Palin has ever pushed for a law as governor of AK to limit choice? She has not even during the height of her popularity. She simple states abortion is immoral and should not be endorsed by government. That life is the moral choice. She lives that morality everyday of her life. I guess you are "too smart" to understand the difference bewteen personal views and legal views.

As far as support of Palin I challenge you to find another "smart" politician that believes and shows in their actions that the individual not the government has the answers to individuals problems. Personal responsibiliy is so "dumb" to liberals they would rather tell people how to think, how to act, how to behave. Your entire post drips with that elitists attitude that people are "too stupid" to control their own lives and think independently. Look in the mirror to see a "dumb" person that you yourself support 100%

  21. Palin divorce rumors just business as usual from the enemies of a real conservative GOP

The Democrat left and GOP elites fear Palin’s popularity with conservative voters as well as her independence from their control and direction. They have done all they can do to destroy her marriage, family, children and her vision for America and will continue to do so.

To the GOP neocon establishment who have trashed and attacked Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Peter Schiff and other potential Republican candidates far more than the liberal Democrats, your attacks just increase the popularity of Sarah and the Palin For President in 2012 website effort at http://www.palin4pres2012.com where we answer “Why They Hate Sarah”.

  22. ok, xax, go line by line and tell us how Sullivan's list is false.

We don't fear Palin. We're just amazed that someone actually dumber than Bush (did you idiots even watch the same interviews the rest of the world did? 0 honestly?) And the Neocons love her, cuz she's even emptier than Bush. Easier to manipulate - let's bomb everywhere! yay.

  23. Cry baby cry. The truth is, progressives love Palin. As far as destroying her, she's doing that by herself. And for your silly little clock, you might as well get used to Obama, especially if this country is doing well. You can kiss your little comeback goodbye.

  24. Clearly anon you're not working with all mental faculties to make your last point.

You'd have to be a brain-dead sycophant to not feel the wave of discontent in this country right now. Those of us that didn't have our heads up our collective (your favorite word, right?) asses chanting Yes We Can!, saw this huckster for this Marxist that he truly is.

The tea parties that you see cropping up every weekend--the protestors at townhall health care forums--that's real grassroots in case you didn't recognize it.

Not some cracked up, looney toons MoveOn/Obamacorn outfit forging legal documents.

Someday the day will come when you realize, as do normal Americans having to foot the bill for your Comrade-In-Chief that a nation can't multiply wealth by dividing it. Until then, you show your total lack of ignorance.

  27. Unfortunately, this may be the only way.

Dear people, wherever you may be,

I've just finished rereading Atlas Shrugged for the third time. The first two times (a long time ago) I applied its lessons to the collapse of the Soviet Bloc. Now Ayn Rand's work seems more pertinent than ever due the events unfolding in my homeland.

The reason I say my homeland is because I'm an expatriate American English teacher living in South Korea. I've been living and working in the ROK for twelve years, but I still send in my absentee ballot for presidential elections every four years.

What I've been seeing taking place in the USA since January 20 is making me more upset by the day. The mounting deficits, the growing and dangerous dependence on China (many South Koreans are very jittery about China) to finance those deficits, the talk of instituting new (VAT and a big one at that) taxes to help cover those very same deficits, the bailouts of GM, and particularly Chrysler, the attempt to remove choice and private enterprise from the U.S. health care system, the stimulus that went mostly to government drones rather things that would really stimulate, and above all, the despicable behavior of the mainstream media in covering up Obama's real Chicago background. I had to go and find the red star at the top of William Ayers website all by myself!

All these things have made me very alarmed concerning the future of my country. So I've reached one overriding conclusion: it's time for Americans to revolt against royal authority for the second time in 234 years.

I say this because I don't believe the traditional legislative process can stop my country's slide towards the comfortable euthanasia of West European-style socialism. With the idiocy of Bush to guide them, the Republicans have done a very creditable job of taking Dirty Harry's 357. and pointing it at least at their feet, if not their heads.

So it's time to revolt. This will be a difficult idea for many Americans to grasp. After all, we are the product of a culture that has been based on the rule of law from its very beginnings back in medieval England.

What I'm talking about is starving the Government Beast. Come next April 15, 2010 don't send in your tax forms. Refuse to pay! If you're a small businessman don't pay your state (If you live in California, New York, or New Jersey, this applies especially to you) or federal business taxes. Don't pay your licensing fees! When the Bush tax cuts expire in 2011, don't file! Simply don't feed the Beast!

If you're worried about prosecution, there's safety in numbers. If ten million Americans refuse to pay, the looters can't possibly oppress more than a very small number of people. If ten million small business people refuse to knuckle under to the New Jealously Class, then the Beast will be truly crippled and will be forced to beg for mercy. View your refusal to pay blackmail to the looters as a civil rights issue along the lines of what inspired Martin Luther King during the civil rights movement of the 1950s and the early 1960s. IT IS NOT YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY TO PAY HIGHER TAXES! In fact, it can be considered a form of treason to file on April 15, 2010.

Anyway, this has happened before. What most Americans don't remember or never learned is that in the run-up to the American Revolution the British backed down twice over the issue of taxes. Parliament repealed both the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts in the face of fierce colonial protests. Remember, the looters don't have the mighty Royal Navy behind them, or ranks of hard fighting British Grenadiers, all they have in their favor is the willingness to submit of a people who have been comfortable for far too long.

If you don't think this is too wacky, PASS IT ON!!!!
