The 100 Million Dollar Budget Cut Exposed

So Obama has asked his cabinet to cut 100 million dollars from the budget. Of course, this is nothing compared to how much will be spent in the overall budget. He knows that most in the media will report it as 100 million being cut rather than .0029% which is being cut. Over on Greg Mankiws blog he lays it out very clearly:

To put those numbers in perspective, imagine that the head of a household with annual spending of $100,000 called everyone in the family together to deal with a $34,000 budget shortfall. How much would he or she announce that spending had be cut? By $3 over the course of the year--approximately the cost of one latte at Starbucks. The other $33,997? We can put that on the family credit card and worry about it next year.

  1. Cutting the budget. .0029% at a time. Outstanding. Claiming to cut the budget is an outright lie. It's like saying I'm eating healthy if I drink a Diet Coke while consuming everything listed here:

  2. At least the AP and ABC went after Gibbsy on this one. I didn't realize I could save millions by buying office supplies in bulk! Whoo!

  3. I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. And I was quite surprised a reporter from the AP asked the right questions and lit into Bibsy for joking about it (what he does best).

Each day with Bibsy (and the rest of them), so much more above their pay grade than the last....
